Meet The Children of Awinjo House

Boarding Students

These students are in P7 (similar to 8th grade in America) and schools strongly encourage that P7 students board during this year. The main reason for boarding is the safety of the students who would have to walk to school in the dark for early and late study sessions. This also allows the students to focus on their school work during this very important year of school.

Transition Program

Students who are in the Transition Program are older (17+) and thus given many more privileges and freedom than the residential students. The goal of this program is to teach these students what it means to live responsibly as adults back in their communities after they graduate from Awinjo. While some of these students stay at an apartment nearby and some stay at their family’s home in Tororo town, we incorporate each student’s family in the process of teaching these students to live as adults.

Students Who Have Been Resettled

These students have been placed back in the home of their families in the village. While the government has began mandating resettlement in some situations, the process could be the result of several things: change in the family’s situation, discovering that the children’s parents are alive, extended family’s willingness to care for the child, the child’s school performance was very poor and a decision that vocational training is a better option, etc. In any case, Awinjo House continues assisting the family in whatever way we feel is appropriate for the situation. Sometimes that is continuing to pay for school fees, helping the family start a small business, or providing ongoing monitoring of the child’s status.

Join the Orphan Partnership Program

While it costs $144 per month to fully provide for each child, we’ve divided that amount into $36 levels so that families & individuals can partner with Awinjo House in a way that is more affordable. And 100% of the money that is given to sponsor a child is used to directly provide for the child in several ways:

  • Food
  • Clothing
  • School Fees
  • Ongoing Healthcare
  • Ugandan Mamas & Papas

Without a team of financial partners that are committed to seeing orphans receive the love and care that every child deserves, Awinjo House could not exist to love these children. Join our Orphan Partnership Program today and help us provide each child at Awinjo House with a loving family environment, emotional & physical healing, a quality education, and practical job training for a productive future after they graduate!
